Alight motion double colour change and transition affect video editing tutorial

Introduction

In this tutorial, we will walk through creating a video from two clips which can be edited in Alight motion 2D. These two clips are split into two different tracks, and then each track is edited using a filter (such as 3D soft edge). After that the videos are saved with the appropriate naming convention for your project.

This tutorial describes the workflow of using the Alight motion 2D plugin to alter text in a video.

Create a new video track, and apply the video track with the Alight motion active to it.

In order for your text to be affected by color changes, you will need two separate clips: one containing your original footage, and one containing your text overlayed over top of it (for example, if you want white letters on black background). These should both be placed in separate tracks in order for them not to interfere with each other when editing in Premiere Pro CC 2019 or earlier versions of Premiere Pro CC (including Premiere Pro CS6).

The workflow is described as follows:

Create a new video track, and apply the video track with the Alight motion active to it

Select all clips under your “Clips” pane, click on “Create Transition” button in the toolbar at the top of your screen, then select "Alight Motion" as your transition effect (if you don't see any option above, make sure that this plugin is installed and enabled).

Set up timecode for each clip by dragging its black vertical bars until they reach where you want them to end (or whatever length you want), or use keyboard shortcuts F8-F9 if these buttons aren't visible on your computer's keyboard yet

Select the clip that you want to add a transition and transition effect to, then right-click on it and select “Create New Clips From Selected Video” from the pop-up menu. In our case we will be creating two clips: one for each of our two different color transitions (orange/yellow and purple). These two clips should be placed on separate tracks within your project so they don't interfere with each other or get mixed up if you change their names later on in this process.

2. Record some footage to be used in your video, and split it into two clips by creating a new "Split" clip track and applying that track to a new "Split" clip track, so that each of the clips has its own preview thumbnail.

Add the Alight motion plugin to each of your clips tracks by selecting them and choosing "Add Motion Effect" from the Effects menu in Premiere Pro CC or any other NLE software you may be using (e.g., Avid Media Composer).

3. Select an editing tool, such as SINSysCut or Video Editor Pro, and select the second clip as the source file and the first clip as the destination file.

You can use any video editing tool you want to create this effect. I recommend using SINSysCut or Video Editor Pro because they are both free and easy to use. If you want to use another program instead of those two programs then go ahead! Just make sure that it's compatible with Windows 10 operating system before you start using it on your computer!

4. Apply a filter (such as 3D soft edge) and change at least one setting of that filter for each frame of the second clip (for example Motion Blur is changed to Soft).

You can use the same method as in step 3 - but with more filters! There are many different types of filters out there, so we'll just give some examples here:

5. Play back this filtered clip on the preview tracks of the source clip and destination clip, using a looping sequence )

Once you have created your custom transition and saved it to your project, you can now apply this same effect to any other clips in your timeline by dragging them over the transition.

6. When you are happy with the results, save your work, using any naming convention suitable for your project

Conclusion

Alight motion is a great way to add text to your video editing. It can be used for titles, credits, or even just as an addition to any other type of footage you have. The workflow described here will allow you to quickly create these types of effects in minutes rather than hours!
